Jennifer Simmons, Unit Director
Jennifer has been with the Boys & Girls Club movement going on four years and is passionate about mentoring and providing a safe place with ample opportunities for the youth in this community. She has a background in sports and management which is how she initially acquired the Director position. Jennifer spends her free time with her family or volunteering at community events with some of the Club’s leadership members. She is passionate about teaching members life skills and providing extracurricular activities to the youth. She believes that it is our duty as a community to lift up every child and help provide guidance, opportunity and forgiveness in order to create a better society for all of us.
Jennifer is responsible for the leadership programs, teen programs and the sports leagues that the Club provides. Every member no matter their age has an opportunity and is encouraged to join one of the three leadership groups the Club offers. For children in elementary school the Club provides a called named Sprouts. Members meet once a week and cover topics such as bullying and being an advocate for others. For our middle school aged members the Club offers Torch Club, members not only learn the importance of character and service to community but they also learn how to hold weekly meetings with decorum. High school members participate in our Keystone Club which is nationally recognized at the highest level of Legacy. Our high school members have put in over 500 hours of community service in our mountain area.
In 2017 Jennifer started the Boys & Girls Club Winter Basketball League. The league consisted of around 60 youth split into teams and participating in weekly practices and games. The next year the league grew to just over 100 youth separated into 3 age divisions. With the added youth the Club sought more volunteers to help coach, referee and score keep. For the 3rd year the Club is anticipating more growth in athlete participation and has added a 4th age division which the Club believes will help keep the league fair and balanced at all levels.
